King's Bruton, Clayesmore, Wells Cathedral School and Downside Rugby 7s...
The King’s Bruton U18s squad finally got their first run out of the year due to poor pitch conditions. The day consisted of playing Downside, Wells Cathedral School and Clayesmore School. King’s started the day well with Oscar scoring a hattrick in the first match against Downside and Niko getting over as well. We missed all of our conversions, but the challenge was always who could play the most expansive rugby and keep the ball away from contact, which we managed to do well in the first game. Downside came back to score their 3rd try in the last minute, but missed the conversion to win the game. Final score 20 - 19 to King’s Bruton.
We then played Wells Cathedral, and again we started well. Mr Lane, our Head of Strength & Conditioning, has worked hard with the boys' fitness, and it showed against Wells, as we started to tire them out in the first half. The boy’s attitude to support the ball carrier allowed us to stay on top the whole game.
Clayesmore was our last game, and we started very slow and lost momentum. We lost our composure a bit for a short period of time. This allowed Clayesmore to score two quick tries, which meant we were on the back foot for most of the game. The boys managed to turn it around in the last minute with Archie scoring a late try. Final score 19 - 28.
This day was never about winning or losing, and all 4 teams played it in a fantastic spirit. Thank you to Somerset Society referees and Prime Practice for covering us on the day.
Player of the Tournament - Oscar.
