Teamwork and outstanding pinpoint navigation from the Ten Tors teams on Dartmoor...
After hectic sports schedule, the Ten Tors team headed down to Runnage Farm on Dartmoor for their next progressive training event. For each event, the distances increase, as does the expectations on the individuals. This weekend was no exception. With clear guidelines to get themselves ready to leave at 0630hrs, the team put up their tents in the dark, arranged their rucksacks, set their alarms for 0530hrs, and got a good night’s sleep, with the temperature being a balmy 3oC!
The next morning, they woke to a light drizzle and a thick mist, indicating that the day ahead was indeed going to be very challenging. The groups set off on opposite sides of Dartmoor to walk across, marshes, bogs and rivers for the next 20km, with scarcely a footpath in sight. Navigation skills were tested, and pleasingly, there was some outstanding pinpoint navigation from the teams. All the time the mist, wind and rain were relentless, the key to success was teamwork, which they excelled at admirably. The teams arrived at their destinations, cold and tired, but with a massive sense of achievement and looking forwards to the next training event at the end of February.
