A busy and successful week of Cricket...
It was an extremely busy and successful week for Cricket at King’s Bruton with a number of National Cup fixtures and friendly games taking place.
On Tuesday, the Junior U15A Girls' Team hosted KES Bath in a 100 Ball fixture. King’s Bruton batted first and posted a very competitive 110 for the loss of just 3 wickets in their 100 balls. Lucy, the pick of the batters, with a well worked 35 not out. King’s started well and took regular break throughs and managed to take the game down to the final ball with the game resulting in a dramatic tie! Ella, the pick of the bowlers. On the same day, the Junior U15A Boys' Team faced Taunton School in Round 2 of the ECB National Schools T20. Fielding first, a strong bowling display restricted Taunton to 129 for 9 off 20 overs, a strong position at the half way stage for King’s. Oliver then scored a destructive 67 not out to see King’s over the line in an historic victory with 8 balls to spare. They now await the news on who they will face in Round 3.
Wednesday saw King’s Bruton host the first English School Cricket Association U11 Girls’ Festival with five Prep Schools involved from around the county. Unfortunately, the festival was beaten by the weather and no fixtures were able to take place. We are proud of the work we are doing to promote the Girls game and look forward to hosting the ESCA U13 Girls’ Final later in the term!
Thursday saw the U18 Boys' National School T20 3rd Round against Wellington School and all House Matches take place. The Senior Boys’ Inter-House Competition took centre stage on Hyde, whilst the Junior Boys battled it out on Abbey and the Girls took to the field on Slopey. It was excellent to see so many pupils out representing their Houses in a competitive and sporting manner.
The 1st XI won the toss and elected to bat first in their National Cup fixture against Wellington School. Posting a below par 102 for 5 off their 20 overs, Felix scoring a very well worked 48 not out, King’s knew they would have to bowl well to have a chance in the game. That they did, taking three wickets inside the first six overs piled the pressure onto a much more experienced Wellington side. James, the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 4 overs, 2 maidens, 2 wickets for just 4 runs! The game would go down to the wire with Wellington getting over the line with 3 balls to spare. A phenomenal achievement from a King’s side bosting four 4th Form pupils and no Upper Sixth!
Good luck to the Junior U15A Boys’ Team who travel to King’s College Taunton in their ESCA National Cup Semi-Final after half term, whilst the Junior U15 Girls’ host Taunton School in Round 3 of the School Sport Magazine National T20.
