It has been another successful term of sport at King’s Bruton, both from a performance and participation perspective, as we encourage as many pupils as possible to represent King’s on the sports pitches. I am very pleased that a large number of senior boys have still opted to play rugby, which has given us strength in depth at both 1st and 2nd XV level, as well as having good participation in the U16 age group. Equally, we have been able to field four senior girls’ hockey teams, again highlighting that lots of girls are still choosing to play the core sport of the term. As well as rugby and hockey, it has been wonderful to see badminton, football and netball fixtures also taking place this term. A special mention must go to the indoor hockey teams, all four of whom qualified for the West of England Finals, making King’s the only school in the region to achieve this feat.

Both the 1st XI Hockey, and 1st XV rugby teams must also be congratulated on their excellent seasons, again demonstrating how at King’s we continue to “punch well above our weight”. The U16 netball team also demonstrated their potential with an outstanding third place finish at the Somerset County U16 tournament and they can look forward to an exciting season next term.

As ever, the games programme would not operate as effectively as it does without the endless support, enthusiasm and dedication of the staff common room, as well as the outstanding support from the sidelines and I am hugely grateful to everyone involved.
