Sport Roundup - Week 11...
Last week we saw the hockey, football, rugby and badminton teams in action in what was another busy week of sport at King’s.
Firstly, the badminton team demonstrated their development this term as they produced an excellent victory versus Sherborne. The singles matches went really well, with King's winning 7 games and losing just 4. The doubles were a closer affair, with 6 wins for King's and 6 wins for Sherborne. Deciding the winner of the doubles section meant counting the number of points of each game. Player of the match was 4th Former, Kristian B (new to Badminton this term), who won his doubles games in partnership with old-timer Aurelian P. Kristian also won his singles game convincingly against a more experienced opponent.
The girls’ hockey teams were dominant across the board in their block fixture versus Clayesmore as there were very comprehensive victories for the 1st XI, 2nd XI and 3rd XI teams, whilst there were further wins for the 4th XI, U15As and the highlight of the weekend being the U15Bs, who not only scored their first goals of the term, but were victorious as they impressively won 3-0. Well done to Tilly F, Annabel R, Leggy M, Esme F, Mel M, Lani M and Charlotte W who were all named players of the match.
King’s rugby faced Prior Park in a highly anticipated block fixture on Saturday. The day saw competitive matches across all age groups. The junior teams put up spirited performances in two tightly contested matches. Both teams demonstrated resilience and skill but narrowly lost. The U16’s hosted a formidable Prior side. They displayed commendable effort throughout the match, but were ultimately outplayed, ending with a 17-0 defeat. The 16s defence held firm for much of the game, but Prior’s offensive strength proved decisive. The senior teams delivered impressive results, securing two crucial wins. The 2nd XV produced a strong performance, clinching an 18-5 win with a player of the match performance from Lenny E. The 1st XV overcame a series of mistakes to deliver a thrilling 24-17 victory. Despite a scrappy contest, the team’s ability to capitalize on opportunities led to several spectacular tries.
