A Celebration of Sport at King's Bruton...
It was wonderful to welcome back Old Brutonians, as well as both current and past parents to our Celebration of Sport last Saturday afternoon. Despite the weather threatening to disrupt proceedings, I was delighted that we could continue with the hockey and cricket matches, as well as the ever popular pupil parent tennis tournament. On the hockey pitch, two very entertaining matches saw the pupils win both the boys’ and girls’ matches, with the girls’ match being particularly exciting as one goal separated the sides. It was then great to see Mats S collect the annual Captains’ Cup, which is awarded to the winning team in a mixed match played between two teams organised by the boys’ and girls’ hockey captains. The cricket match was enjoyed by both parents and pupils alike as the Old Brutonians set a target of 167 to win. However, the pupils, buoyed by the performance of Ethan M, who scored an unbeaten 91, came away victorious. Finally, the pupil parent tennis tournament was another entertaining affair, with some quality tennis on display and some very competitive matches. Congratulations to Algie M and his dad, Rollo, who won the main event, whilst Ewan M-I and dad Hamish, won the consolation.
As ever, a huge thank you to everyone who made the day possible, from the OBs, parents, catering staff, the Sports Department, but most of all our Events Manager, Penny Bird, for all her hard work and organisation.
