The 3rd Form pupils have a timetabled two hour lesson every two weeks, in which they learn all the practical skills required for independent healthy living or, if they choose to take their studies forward to the GCSE level, they will be confident in the classroom environment.
Our pupils have followed very diverse career routes on completion of their studies at King’s, including degree level courses in Events Management, International Hospitality (UK & Australian Universities), Norland, Food Retail Management and Dietetic and Business Degrees. Pupils engaged in Sixth Form studies enjoy a wide selection of visits to local and prestigious London hospitality establishments and exhibitions.
We aim to teach all the curricula in a very practical format which the pupils find interesting and very informative.
Our dynamic GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition specification (AQA exam board) equips students with an array of culinary techniques, as well as a focus on five key areas of study: nutrition and health, food science, provenance, food choice and food safety.
The course is divided into 50% Coursework made up of Non-Exam Assessments and 50% Exam. Coursework is completed under controlled conditions and incorporates food science and food & nutrition tasks.
At Sixth Form we teach Level 3 BTEC Hospitality. In the L6th Form we will complete the 30 credit Certificate and then progress onto the 60 credit Subsidiary Diploma in the U6th Form. This is an ideal course for those pupils who wish to develop hospitality skills and explore opportunities within this ever expanding and exciting industry. Pupils learn how to develop ideas and concepts, and bring them to life. They will explore methods of ensuring excellent customer service, teamwork and hospitality management, as well as their own personal development in this industry.
Pupils will also take a more in-depth look at some important business and financial practices, such as planning, financial control and marketing. The Hospitality BTEC provides pupils with a combination of learning and experience that will be welcomed by universities, colleges and employers, no matter which career path is ultimately chosen.
