Last Wednesday afternoon, King’s hosted its annual Boys’ U10 and U12 Hockey Tournaments.
It was a well-attended afternoon with 8 teams participating in the U10 Tournament and 7 teams playing on the U12 side. Despite the cold conditions, it was fantastic to see both Tournaments being played in great spirits and to a high standard.
The U10 Tournament demonstrated just how much the general standard of hockey is improving as all of the teams played exciting attacking hockey. After a closely contested group stage, it was Hazlegrove, Queen’s College, Sherborne and Wellington who qualified for the semi-finals, whilst Forres Sandle Manor, Chafyn Grove, Bournemouth Collegiate Prep and Mount Kelly who faced each other in the other crossover matches. After some very entertaining playoff matches, it was Hazlegrove who became eventual champions, defeating Queen’s College in the Final. Sherborne Prep secured third place with a victory over Wellington.
The U12 Tournament was played in a round robin format and it was fantastic to see such a good level of competition with numerous losing bonus points being awarded due to the close nature of the matches. It was wonderful to see teams improve throughout the course of the afternoon and after some very well fought matches, it was Hazlegrove who finished top of the table having won all of their matches, with Mount Kelly in second and Salisbury Cathedral in third.
A huge thanks must go to all of the participating pupils, parents and staff as well as the King’s Bruton pupil umpires, catering, grounds, sports and marketing departments for their huge support and help in making the afternoon such a success.
