After the disruption caused by the cold weather in Week 1, it was wonderful to have a full week of sport last week. Congratulations to the U18, U16 and U14 boys’ hockey teams who all progressed in the National Schools’ cup, overcoming Clayesmore, Exeter School and Canford respectively. Seven of the hockey teams were then in action on Saturday with most teams facing Exeter, whilst the 3rd XI travelled to Bryanston. There were pleasing victories for the 1st XI (3-2), 2nd XI (5-0) and the U15As (4-2), whilst the remaining teams enjoyed closely fought contests in which they all lost by a solitary goal. Well done to Anton F, Ludo W, Jack L, Harry W, Max F and Freddie S, who were all named players of the match.
Meanwhile, it was wonderful to see 7 King’s runners compete in the Somerset Cross-Country Championship. Samuel H ran creditably in a strong Senior Boys’ race. Anstice R, Helena S, Maggie A and Florence G supported each other brilliantly in the senior and intermediate girls’ race, while Agathe B and Lina F ran courageously in the junior girls race. Maggie and Florence qualified for the South-West finals, with Agathe gaining a reserve spot.
The netballers lined up versus King’s College Taunton in their first block fixture of the term. It proved a challenging one for our juniors and a more competitive one for our seniors. Victories were secured by our 2nd, 3rd and 4th teams with some impressive performances across the board. Our 1st VII should not be disheartened providing an excellent opening and the final quarter performance.
Team of the week: 2nd VII who won 30-22. An even ability match, but King’s Bruton demonstrated more determination and want for possession. They were rewarded accordingly.
Players of the matches: U14 As - Charlotte W and Sophie M, U14Bs - Ruby B and Sarah S. U15As - Lucy W and Tilly E (who caught the eye of Bath Academy coaches), U15Bs - Ruby K-J, U15Cs - Poppy B and Alma B R. 4th - Eva Q and Flo K, 3rd - Geneva N and Esme F, 2nd - Liv B and Minnie C, 1st - Isabella McG.
Finally, Sunday saw King’s host its biggest 7s Rugby tournament in recent times with 15 schools in attendance. A brilliant day of rugby saw some excellent performances from the King’s team, with lots of the squad getting good game time. There were some impressive performances which saw the team record victories versus King’s College Taunton, Mount Kelly and Bryanston. However, more importantly, it was an early opportunity for the squad to put their training into match practise.
