On Tuesday 9th October eleven Sixth Form artists travelled to London.
The pupils are developing independent personal studies and practical responses as they tackle their final coursework elements. They had planned their own itineraries to incorporate two venues within the day, and this saw groups visiting the British Museum, the V&A, the National Portrait Gallery, the National Gallery, Tate Modern, Tate Britain and the Saatchi Gallery. Areas of interest included masks from different cultures; Greek and Roman figurative sculptures; contemporary portrait painting techniques; the use of line on two and three dimensional surfaces; applied design in fabric and ceramics; traditional Asian fashion; Constructivism, and the art of the sublime in the 19th Century.
Narnia was lucky enough to go behind the scenes at the Tate Britain in the Study Room and access the extensive Turner collection of sketch books and watercolours. All the pupils accomplished what they had planned and these experiences will enhance the evidence for first hand study within their coursework. An album of photos from the trip can be seen below!
