Art Prep School Days

Year 2 travelled from Hazlegrove today to view the "Alien Seas" exhibition in our Art Department, writes Wayne Spilsbury, Head of Art.

The pupils were given a tour of the show, asking lots of questions. It was lovely to see how eager they were to find out more about what happens in Art at King’s. As well as a guided visit of the exhibition, they also had a tour of the department and took part in a group project to create a scene of jellyfish under the sea based on their hand outlines. Afterwards biscuits and cold drinks prepared them for their journey back to Hazlegrove. It was wonderful to welcome such an enthusiastic and fantastically behaved group of Hazlegrovians and their teachers. Some quotes from the year 2 children were:

  • “The exhibition was really good. I loved the jellyfish and thought the shark should brush his teeth more carefully, they were really dirty”
  • “I am going to ask my mummy for rubbish so that I can make a bunny. I will need plastic bottles for the ears, an old ball for the body and cotton wool for the tail”
  • “It’s was great to go to King’s. I loved the art and the boys and girls are very clever to have created such beautiful fishes”
  • “I liked it because it is quite cool to make things from rubbish”
  • “Now I have seen the exhibition, I am going to make a hedgehog out of rubbish”
  • “My favourite part of the exhibition, was the cave of lights and the jellyfish and stingray in the dark”
  • “I thought the art room was interesting and would like to go back and see the animals in there again”
  • “I had such a good time, that I know I won’t be able to get to sleep until 7.30pm!”
