Old Brutonian, Harriet Tuson, talked to L6th Form pupils about her USA athletics scholarship...
The Lower 6th Form finished their week with a morning off timetable to consider applications for their next stage beyond King’s.
A presentation on personal statement writing started the morning, covering key components and structure needed for strong university applications. The process leads on from here, with pupils building foundations for their personal statements, which will then be drafted and redrafted with the help of tutors and senior staff until they are ready for submission.
Following that start, selected pupils benefitted from a workshop focused on researching and applying for degree apprenticeship applications. Mrs Goffe, Apprenticeships Adviser, led them through a strong grounding for the challenging search and application processes to come.
A highlight of the morning then followed, when Old Brutonian, Harriet Tuson, currently at the University of New Mexico on an Athletics Scholarship, came in to share her experience of university life in the USA. She was able to share her tips and guidance for pupils considering their next steps, answering a raft of questions about her time in Albuquerque and also her undergraduate year at Loughborough University. It was fascinating to hear more about the different education systems, as well as life in southern USA. It was fantastic to have the insight of an OB just a few years ahead of the Lower 6th and all appreciated Harriet giving up her holiday time to help guide the current pupils in their current plans. We wish her every success in her continued training.
