Sixth Form

Where does one start when reviewing a term like the one we have just enjoyed?! It has been a packed 13 weeks for the 6th Form. September started with the largest 6th Form Roll that we have seen in many years, and a 6th Form clearly keen to follow and build on the successes of recent years.

A few highlights:

  • The Upper 6th Interview Practice Day, with over 100 interviews being held in a 4 hour window, preparing them for careers and university interviews ahead.
  • An International Higher Education Fair hosted at King’s, with representatives from 12 leading global universities and attended by over 120 pupils from King’s and further afield.
  • London careers and universities visits to the UCAS Creative Careers Fair and the USA Fulbright Colleges Fair.
  • An overnight visit to the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford.
  • Fascinating and informative talks from Peter Radford on politics, Oxford Life Skills on first impressions, documentary photographer Jim Holmes on global humanitarian issues, ITHappens on future personal health and more.
  • The renovation of the 6th Form Club by Rev'd Beverly, Mrs Simper and the Maintenance Team, and packed theme nights and special Saturday evening social events, driven by the pupils.
  • Lively discussion and high-quality academic presentations in the Headmaster’s Essay Society and other academic forums within the School.
  • 6th Form leadership and organisation in charity events, EDI initiatives, debating teams and sports events, and as senior pupils in prefect roles, speaking in assemblies, organising wellbeing initiatives.
  • Subject enrichment trips to London hospitality venues, local business enterprises, the Morgan factory, Berlin, London galleries, university science laboratories, theatre performances and many more besides.
  • Fascinating careers talks on environment and sustainability opportunities, music industry roles, business careers.
  • Over 40 6th Form subject taster sessions and an information evening.
  • Over 55 pupils submitted university applications, with many offers already returning from Leeds, King’s College London, Manchester, Durham, Cardiff and many more besides (with Mr Daws and Mrs Garland reading and supporting pupils with over 250 drafts of personal statements and references, on top of the huge amounts of support given by Upper 6th tutors.

And much, much more. The 6th Form have been outstanding this term, in commitment, focus and ambition. With much more to look forward to in the two terms ahead, I hope they now enjoy some time to recover and a Happy Christmas!
