A beautiful set of linocut cards for charity, created by Lilah, of King's Bruton scenes...
One of our esteemed artists, as well as art historian, in the U6th Form, Lilah Bird, has created some fabulous linocut prints of the houses and prominent buildings at King's Bruton. The work was commissioned by the School and will hopefully serve as a reminder to Old Brutonians, as well as current pupils, what a wonderful community and setting we have at King’s. Lilah is looking to head up to Edinburgh for a degree in textiles design next year.
Seamus Harkness - Head of Art
I am an A Level Art and History of Art student at King’s, I was commissioned to produce a series of cards of the most significant buildings at King’s Bruton. All profits from the sales will be going to the school charity of the term.
I have previously explored natural dying, print making using dead stock fabric, and botanical inks and techniques, including lino printing. I understand the importance of sustainability, not as a trend, but as an ethos, and that is integral to my creative decisions. This holistic approach is at the heart of everything that I create, and I am constantly seeking to find new ways to integrate these concepts into my practice. I aspire to study textile design at university, and then interior design as a career, with sustainable practices and celebrating the wonder of the natural world, whilst also being mindful to how our decisions impact it.
To follow my ethos as a young artist, all the cards are printed on 100% sustainable paper and envelopes.
Lilah - U6th Form, Priory House
The Art Department always fascinates prospective families when I tour them around the School, with pupils of all ages participating in a wide variety of activities. The Upper 6th room sees our Art A Level and History of Art A Level pupils engrossed in their portfolios, and prep school pupils love hearing our 6th Form artists explaining their work. So it come as no surprise to me that Lilah (U6th Form, Priory House) has produced such a wonderful set of linocut school cards, and she certainly deserves her Headmaster’s Distinction. I look forward to using Lilah’s cards over the coming two terms.
