On Friday evening, many 5th Form pupils and their parents took the opportunity to explore the next step in the their future education at the Into the Sixth Form Evening.
Following a welcome from the Head Girl, Kitty, the Headmaster put the context of the evening in a busy few days which encapsulated what is on offer the in the Sixth Form at King’s: in the four days after half-term, the Sixth Form had practice interviews, a Sixth Form Formal Dinner, U6th Form History Presentations, school play rehearsals, university offers, applications to UK and US universities, not to mention academic lessons, as well as hockey and rugby matches!
Head of Sixth Form, Mr Daws then followed this with a further challenge to 5th Form pupils to see King’s Sixth Form as somewhere in which to be ambitious. Ambitious with time, using it to the maximum; ambitious with academic learning, choosing the right pathway and working hard to achieve the best results possible; and ambitious with the future, seeing the vast array of opportunities open and considering where will be the best fit and preparation for the future. Mr Daws explained, that these ambitions are for pupils to hold alongside the School seeking to ensure ambition lies at the heart of what is provided in the Sixth Form.
Following an outline of the subjects on offer and the choices to be made, parents and pupils were then introduced to several pupils, all of whom had different pathways through the Sixth Form and thus were able to offer advice for pupils currently in the 5th Form.
The advice and information continued in the sports hall, which had been transformed into a subject fair. Representatives from each department were on hand with information on their subjects, ensuring the pupils were thoroughly informed and guided in their Sixth Form subject choices, and laying the platforms for discussions with parents and tutors in the weeks ahead.
