Prep School pupils enjoyed Concert Band workshops at King's Bruton culminating in a super concert...
We welcomed prep school pupils to King's from Hazlegrove and Port Regis for a Concert Band workshop. The pupils worked in smaller sectional workshops for woodwind, brass and percussion before rehearsing together. The music included The Revenge of the Electric Sharpeners by Douglas Wagner alongside a suite of pieces for Concert Band entitled Short Cuts for Beginner Band - Vol. 5 in four movements 1) Treasure 2) Eye of the Tiger 3) Havana and 4) All that Jazz. The afternoon also included an advanced workshop for wind quintet who prepared arrangements of folk tunes including This Old Man, Greensleeves and Bobby Shaftoe. All the pupils worked very hard, and they made a fantastic sound. The culmination of the afternoon was a short concert performance of the pieces, attended by a very enthusiastic audience.
Well done to all the prep school pupils for all their hard work, and my thanks goes to Mr Higgs, Mr Lambton and Mr Jobbins, along with the King’s musicians who helped run the workshops and supported the prep school pupils so well.
