A fantastic Summer Concert...

We were treated to a fabulous Summer Concert in the Hauser & Wirth Recital Hall. The Orchestra opened the evening with three pieces including O mio babino caro (Puccini) with Jenna as soprano soloist and Schindler’s List (Williams) with the solo violin played by Lily. The School Choir gave an eclectic mix of music from a jazz standard to popular music featuring Lily once again, but this time as a vocal soloist. The Piano Trio played two pieces as they bid a fond farewell to their pianist, Harry. The Trombone Ensemble followed with two highly contrasting pieces which the audience seem to particularly enjoy. The Chapel Choir performed Elgar’s The Spirit of the Lord and Ireland’s Greater Love, with the soprano and baritone solos covered by Jenna and Sebastian respectively. The Groove Band and Flute Ensemble gave super performances followed by the Chamber Choir with Janssen’s Pie Jesu and Stanford’s beautiful The Blue Bird with Florence singing the soprano solo. The String Ensemble treated us to an exciting performance of Coldplay’s Viva la Vida and the Big Band has our feel tapping with Don’t you worry 'bout a thing and My favourite things, both as arranged by Paul Murtha.

The concert ended with a set of pieces played by the Military Band. These were in honour of Phil Lambton’s 20 years of dedicated service to King’s - the sound was terrific, and it was particularly moving to have several Old Brutonians join for this occasion. It was wonderful that so many wanted to be a part of this special occasion. Our deep gratitude and thanks go to Mr Lambton as he retires from teaching. I would also like to extend my thanks to all the pupils and staff who helped make the Summer Concert such a joyful and successful event. It was a truly outstanding evening of music.
