A successful BTEC Hospitality trip to London...
The U6th Form BTEC Hospitality pupils visited London for a whistle-stop, magical tour of different hospitality businesses and culinary experiences. All the visits contribute to coursework, where, on return, pupils will write reports about their experiences. First stop was the bustling Borough Market, where pupils were asked to observe commodities linked to the European countries they are studying. The market is colourful and contains the upmost in quality produce. It also has the most incredible offer of 'street food.' From there we ventured to Battersea where @thealchemist.uk.com hosted a molecular mixology workshop, which was both engaging and fun. Pupils made mocktails which resembled potions with bubbles and smoke effects and learnt how to mix proportions and serve them professionally. A short walk lead us to Battersea Power Station where we experienced a tour of Battersea Micro Brewery and a talk on how beers and ales are made and stored. This was particularly useful evidence gathered for Unit 7 - Alcoholic Beverages.
Day two saw the pupils exploring Spitalfields Market, @eatalylondon an incredible Italian food store with 2 floors of beautifully presented raw ingredients was truly inspirational for all of us. A short underground ride took us to Mayfair exploring Fortnum and Mason Food Hall and a memorable afternoon tea at The Chesterfield Hotel, which helped demonstrate 5* service. Etiquette, quality service, teamwork and customer experience are all part of the Hospitality syllabus, so this was an ideal opportunity to see service at a high level.
A busy couple of days walking miles and navigating Christmas crowds, but well worth it for the wealth of information we gained from these brilliant and helpful Hospitality businesses.
