A successful trip to London for BTEC Hospitality pupils...
The BTEC Hospitality pupils went to London to gather evidence for various units they are studying, including Unit 6 Food & Drink Service, Unit 7 Alcoholic beverages and Unit 11 Asian Cuisine.
We arrived in London to a dazzling display of Christmas cheer, with all the Christmas lights and shop windows adorned with magical displays. The pupils were very excited and loved the unique style hotel we stayed in at the heart of Piccadilly. After dropping our luggage off, we crossed the River Thames to the hustle and bustle of Borough Market where pupils were tasked with finding Asian commodities to photograph, and observe Asian 'street food'. The sounds and smells enveloped us as we pushed and squeezed our way around this amazing place.
Next, we caught the underground to the imposing Battersea Power Station, where we enjoyed a whistle stop tour of @BatterseaBrew a micro brewery tucked under the arches right next to the power station. After watching the ice skaters whizzing around the rink on the river, we walked along the river to @thealchemist for a unique and hands on workshop making Mocktails. Pupils were given a lesson in mixology where they were shown how to pour, mix and garnish their 'No-Loma Spritz' and 'Cos-No.' It was such an amazing experience and gave them lots of tips for the upcoming Snow Ball where they will be making Mocktails for 5th Form.
After a fantastic meal @Pho in Wardour street in the evening, we toured Chinatown, visiting supermarkets and observing Chinese culture. We also squeezed in an evening walk to view all the Christmas lights before a very well deserved sleep.
On day two, we explored The Japan Centre, mainly to view commodities and equipment. Pupils loved seeing all the interesting sweets and sushi boxes. We then sat down to experience 'Asian style' afternoon tea @sanctumhotel. The attention to detail and flavours were incredible. We all loved the quirky decor and furnishing including the life sized Gorilla on the way to the bathrooms. The rest of the day was taken up with the glory of Fortnum and Mason's food hall and more Asian research.
Another enjoyable busy trip with Upper 6th who were impeccably behaved and were a credit to King's. My thanks to Mrs Portch who accompanied us on the trip.
