L6th Form King's Bruton Economics pupils visit to Google HQ and Barclays Capital...

A fantastic trip on Tuesday 20th February for the L6th Form Economics pupils. A morning visit to the impressive Google office at Central St Giles, included an exclusive tour of the building and ‘creative areas’. Pupils were given first hand insight into the new space; state of the art gyms, great food spots all over the building, amazing London views, sleep pods, fireside meeting spaces, sofas, and of course, pool tables and table tennis. Pupils were also given an excellent talk by Tom Cannon, and Economics Graduate and Financial Analyst, Abhinav Agrawal. Talks that included an update on Alphabet projects, and a description of some of Google’s projects including the well reported AI developments.  Abhinav described how he secured his position as a Financial Analyst after studying Economics at Nottingham University.

After a much appreciated lunch, courtesy of Google, it was off to Barclays Investment. It was all change at the investment bank since King's Bruton pupils last visit pre-covid. The refurbished building at Canary Wharf taking on a more ‘Googlesque’ appearance with soft furnishings, cafés and more relaxed work areas. However, there was a much less relaxed aesthetic on the trading floors. After signing NDAs (Non Disclosure Agreements), pupils were given access to the trading floors and given talks by Tarun Mathur MD, Rates Sales EU Mgmt and Mark Wyatt MD, UKRM FX Sales (Macro). Tarun also answered excellent pupil questions regarding the future of trading and the current economic crisis. Mark went on to offer clear guidance on how to secure positions at the investment bank as an undergraduate.
