L6th Form BTEC Hospitality pupils explored the diversity of the hospitality industry in Bath...

On Tuesday 31st January, L6th Form Hospitality pupils went to Bath to compare different Hotels in terms of structure and organisation and the services on offer. We were welcomed at The Hilton by the sales team who gave pupils a tour of the Hotel and explained their operational side. Working lunch was at Wagamama’s where pupils enjoyed a tasty Japanese fusion menu, but the focus was upon service and training of staff. The restaurant manager talked through their training and operational side of the business and what makes good customer service.

Once again, the staff at The Queensbury Hotel inspired pupils by talking through their individual and varied routes into Hospitality and responding to a Q&A session put together by pupils. We were lucky to have acclaimed Executive Chef, Chris Cleghorn, describe the qualities needed to succeed and the hours he has put in over the years to achieve excellence. Restaurant Manager, Aisling Bury, described her travels around the world and Post Graduate Degree at Les Roches International School of Hotel Management, and assistant Hotel Manager, Pete, talked through the levels of service they provide at The Queensbury, a luxury boutique hotel with Michelin Star, 3AA Rosette restaurant, The Olive Tree.

It was fantastic for pupils to hear about the different routes into management, and the passion and determination needed to succeed. We are very grateful to all hospitality establishments we visited as they welcomed our pupils with open arms. This will prove invaluable for their current coursework exploring the diversity of the hospitality industry.
