Sixth Form Careers

On the verge of finishing their school years and entering the world of universities, apprenticeships and careers, the U6th Form pupils will soon find themselves in front of an interviewer, with their future plans hanging on the impression they give.

Last Saturday’s U6th Form Interview Scheme ensured that, for King’s Bruton pupils, this will not be the first experience of such a setting and they will be better prepared to make the right impact in competitive applications. Nineteen interviewers, from business owners, engineers, insurance experts and bankers, to sales and HR managers, doctors and more, kindly gave their time and experience for the benefit of the pupils. Questioned for twenty minutes each, with most having two interviews, the pupils grew in confidence as they talked about their interests, strengths, weakness, experiences and aspirations. Following this, the pupils were given feedback and advice for improvement, with a number of nuggets of career advice included as well.

Will Daws, Head of Sixth Form, commented: “I was most impressed with the Sixth Form, who showed the character, maturity and genuine ambition that we have come to recognise as hallmarks of King’s pupils as they enter their final year. They managed to impress the interviewers, which is no small feat given the decades of experience amongst them! A huge thank you must go to the interviewers, who generously gave their time to help these young adults prepare for their futures.”
