Careers Sixth Form

The Lower Sixth Form Careers Convention was an excellent evening during which many King’s pupils were further guided and informed in their future career choices.

The evening was started off by keynote speakers in a packed-out Fitzjames Theatre. David Warburton, MP for Somerton and Frome, told the story of his own career path, as a musician, entrepreneur, teacher and politician. Pupils were encouraged to give careers a go, to try things and discover what is right for them. Old Brutonian Ed Salmon then spoke about his career experiences, studying Economics at Exeter, progressing through the Aldi graduate scheme, and currently working for a healthcare distribution start-up, Echo, in London. Ed compared the different roles and the route he took to get there, offering helpful direction to the pupils.

Following the keynote speakers, whilst parents were being briefed on the higher education and career research and application process by the Head of Sixth From, the pupils enjoyed a series of seminars with carefully selected careers representatives. From arboriculturalists and engineers, to solicitors, doctors and event managers, twenty delegates gave their evenings to guide the pupils as to potential career roles and how to get there. Pupils found out about what the roles involved on a day to day basis, as well as how to build experience and opportunities to step into the wide range of industries represented. In all, it was a thoroughly helpful evening for everyone who attended. Huge thanks go to the keynote speakers and to the many delegates for giving their time and wisdom. An album of photos from the evening can be seen below.
