The King’s Bruton U14 Girls’ Hockey team made a little bit of history on Tuesday afternoon as they finished runners up at the Somerset County Tournament to qualify for the Regional Finals for the very first time.
Placed in a difficult pool alongside Wells Cathedral, Wellington and Millfield, the girls fought hard to qualify for the semi-finals. In the opening match versus a strong Wells Cathedral, it ended 0-0 with both sides having chances to score. A 4-0 victory versus Wellington meant that a draw with Millfield would be enough to send them through after Millfield had lost 1-0 to Wells. In the Millfield match, King’s defended valiantly and held on to a 0-0 draw to set up a semi-final with Taunton School. The semi-final saw King’s produce their best hockey of the day as they won 1-0 to secure their place in the final and qualification to the Regional Finals. Despite having some early goal scoring opportunities in the final versus Queen’s College, their opponents showed more composure in the final third to record a 2-0 victory. However, this is a fantastic achievement for the team and they can now look forward to the Regional Finals at Clifton College on the 8th November.
