RN CCF Cadets enjoyed orienteering on Ham Hill...
The Royal Navy Cadets were released on Ham Hill equipped with map, compass and VHF radio to apply their skills in an orienteering race. Cadets disappeared off over the hills, where their only method of communication was by radio, which they took to very well, following correct procedure on public frequencies. We were delighted to find that more than one of the groups were able to race around (almost) the whole course in a very impressive feat of combined map and compass navigation skill. Although a little chilly, we were grateful to have avoided Storm Bert, and a very pleasant afternoon was enjoyed by all. With just one more session in the Royal Navy for Cadets this year, we will be heading to the pool for SCUBA before wrapping up for Christmas.
