The Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh teams departed for their practice expeditions on the Mendip Hills.

In total, eight teams were preparing for their qualifying expeditions in the summer. Whilst the risk of adverse weather was ever-present in the week leading up to the expedition, we were exceptionally lucky and the sun shone for much of the weekend. The terrain was varied and challenging in parts, but the pupils were treated to wonderful views of Cheddar Gorge, Burrington Combe, and the surrounding hills. Both Silvers and Golds experienced a great deal of highs and lows and the complexities of a multi-day expedition were a first for many, but all rose to the challenge and completed the practice with a great deal of enthusiasm and optimism. All pupils will now look to their qualifiers in the summer which, alongside finishing their skill, physical, and volunteering, will mark the completion of their awards. I would like to thank all the staff and volunteers who gave their time and expertise to make the weekend such a success.
