A week 3 sports roundup...

Despite some challenges caused by the weather, it was a busy week of sport with our tennis, cricket, swimming, athletics and golf teams in action.

A highlight of the cricket week was the 1st XI defeating the MCC on Tuesday afternoon, a very rare feat and one which the team can be very proud of. Oliver was outstanding as his unbeaten 62 runs guided the team to victory, whilst the whole team fielded superbly well. Whilst Saturday afternoon saw the away fixtures versus Blundell’s cancelled, it was fantastic to host four matches at King’s. Congratulations to the 1st XI who won by 67 runs, with captain Ronnie leading the way with a fine 82 not out and Ben chipping in with an excellent half century. This was backed by some very good bowling by Oliver and Ethan. There was a further victory for the Junior B team as player of the match Otto took 2 wickets for only 9 runs, whilst Euan scored a useful 27 not out. There was a last ball defeat for the Junior As despite a half century from George, whilst the Junior Cs were unable to back up their bowling display in the field as they fell eventually fell short. Alisdair was named Player of the Match.

There were some outstanding performances from the athletes at the meet in Taunton on Saturday afternoon with Angus impressing in both the field and on the track, whilst Rory also ran a very impressive 200m. There was a personal best triple jump from Josh, whilst Anstice won both her high jump and 1500m. Lucy also ran an excellent 200m and was part of the winning mixed 4 x 200m relay team with Rory, Angus and Florence.

The swimmers travelled to Taunton School on Thursday afternoon and were superbly led by captains Isabel and Barney. Despite losing overall, there were some exceptional performances against very strong opposition, with a number of podium finishes and race wins. The swimmers of the meet were the Junior Boys after some impressive swims and a victory in the relays.

The girls’ tennis teams were also in action against Wells Cathedral on Thursday afternoon in what was a closely contested fixture, as the 3rd VI were the only winning team as they secured a 5-4 victory.

Finally, the golf team played out a very entertaining draw against Downside on Friday afternoon as the pairing of Joe and Otto managed to secure the King’s point with an impressive victory against a Downside pairing which included a scratch golfer.

Well done to everyone on a very busy and enjoyable week of sport. Best of luck to our 1st XI and U15A cricket teams who are in cup action this week.
