It was brilliant to be able to celebrate and recognise the commitment of our King’s Bruton 1st Teams at the annual 1st Team Dinner on Saturday night. The evening is very much a celebration of 1st Team sport at King’s Bruton and is designed to thank all the pupils for the time, effort and dedication they give throughout the course of the year.

The Sports Department enjoyed serving the pupils their delicious three course meal, and whilst none of the team are hospitality specialists, we very much took it in our stride! It was wonderful to hear from each of the 1st Team captains, who prepared and delivered well thought out and engaging speeches. It is not easy to speak to a room full of people, and I was very impressed with the quality of their delivery.

Congratulations to the 4th/5th Form table who won the table quiz, having correctly identified all 16 members of the King’s Bruton staff from their photos as up and coming sports stars in their younger years. Finally, the evening concluded with the award of the ‘Barber Trophy’ for the highest performing 1st Team, and it was great to see Lilah collect this on behalf of the winning Girls’ Tennis 1st VI team.

My thanks must go to Penny Bird, Mark Pickthall, the catering department and the sports department for all their help on the evening, without which, it simply would not have been possible.
