A great start to the Cricket Term at King’s Bruton...

On a weekend where limited cricket would be played around the country, King’s Bruton managed to field four teams in our traditional block against Monkton Combe School.

The 1st XI, fielding 5 debutants, lost the toss and were asked to field by Monkton Combe. Ethan and Max both found their stride early, backed up by some excellent fielding, this started to build pressure on the Monkton openers and James was able to break the deadlock inside 10 overs. James and Ronnie managed to apply good pressure in the middle overs and both picked up early wickets. George was the pick of the bowlers finishing with figures of 3 for 22 off his allocated overs. It was really pleasing to see both Oliver and Ethan in the wickets, both bowled with pace and control. Monkton Combe School finished 106 all out off the 35 overs. King’s looked to be positive with the bat as both openers, Ben and Ethan, started to find their rhythm. Ethan managed to bring up a very elegant 50 off just 39 balls. King’s managed to secure a 10 wicket victory inside the 16 over, Ethan finished 70 not out, supported well by Ben who finished 29 not out.

The 1st XI Girls recorded their second win in as many games with a 10 wicket win over Monkton Combe School. King’s restricted Monkton to 61 all out inside 16 overs with Erica the pick of the bowlers with 2 wickets for 5 runs. In response, the opening partnership of Georgia and Lucy managed to get King’s over the line without losing a wicket finished 23 and 19 not out respectively.

The Junior U15As performed well against the same opposition. Batting first, captain Milo led the way and set a fine example to the team with a very well worked 100. A great effort on the first weekend of the season! Milo was supported well by Nathan who was dismissed for a well worked 49. King’s posted 214 for 6 off their 25 overs. In response, wickets were shared amongst the bowlers who restricted Monkton to 117 for 9 off their allocated over to win by 97 runs.

The Junior U15Bs travelled to Monkton and batted first. An excellent opening partnership from Euan and Harry ensured that King’s posted a competitive total as they finished 142 for 6 off 20 overs. King’s then bowled and fielded very tightly and dismissed their opposition for 65 runs inside 18 overs to win by 77 runs.

A positive start to the term with a number of strong team and individual performances. A huge thank you must go to our dedicated Grounds Department who have ensured both training and match facilities have been available to teams this week. Without them, this weekend would not have been possible.
