The weather couldn’t prevent a successful week of Cricket at King’s Bruton...
Unfortunately, the 1st XI Boys’ and Girls’ T20 fixtures against Warminster School were beaten by the weather. This didn’t prevent a full set of fixtures taking place against the Old Brutonians and Downside School on Saturday.
1st XI vs Old Brutonians
The 1st XI would host an Old Brutonian team fielding a high number of past 1st XI players so they knew they would be in for a tough test. Losing the toss, the 1st XI were asked to field first in difficult conditions. The Old Brutonians got off to a strong start before King’s started to take regular wickets with the OB’s finishing 167 for 5 from their 20 overs. Oliver G, the pick of the King’s Bruton bowlers, returning with figures of 2 wickets for just 24 runs of his allocated four overs. Ethan M decided to take the attack to the Old Brutonians with the bat, rotating strike and punishing the bad ball well as he finished 91 not out to see King’s Bruton 1st XI over the line with 4 overs to spare, winning by 7 wickets.
King's Bruton vs Downside
The 2nd XI would face a tough test in Downside School 1st XI. Batting first, King’s posted a very competitive 136 for the loss of just two wickets from 25 overs. In response, Downside lost regular wickets as King’s ran out winners by 32 runs. The Junior U15As also hosted Downside School. King’s Bruton batted first and posted a very competitive 179 off 20 overs with Milo M and Harry L both retiring on 50. King’s were able to rotate their bowlers as they restricted Downside to 87 all out to win by 92 runs. The Junior U15Bs were on the road as they travelled to Downside School. A very strong start saw King’s post 136 for 9 wickets from 20 overs before they bowled their opposition out for just 71 to win by 65 runs.
We now look forward to our Cricket Festival Week as we host the Rifles Regiment, Wiltshire Queries Cricket Club, XL Club and ACE Academy.
