The Chapel Choir sang Choral Evensong at Bristol Cathedral...

On Thursday 18th April, the Chapel Choir sang Choral Evensong at Bristol Cathedral. The Chapel Choir last sang at Bristol Cathedral in the Spring Term 2020, just as the pandemic came into focus. It is such a fine building; the bright and spacious nave was built between 1868 and 1877 and has a ‘hall church’ design that means the aisle on either side are the same height as the main nave. The generous acoustic in the building is incredible and very rewarding to sing in.

The music for the service included the Preces and Responses by Richard Ayleward, Psalms 93 set to a chant by Henry Ley, Thomas Tertius Noble’s setting of the Canticles in B minor and Elgar’s stunning anthem ‘The Spirit of the Lord’ which forms the Prologue to the oratorio ‘The Apostles’. The Chapel Choir sang well throughout, and the anthem was particularly exciting.

Well done and congratulations to the Chapel Choir on their high standard of singing. This service was the final cathedral visit of the academic year, and my thanks go to those members of the U6th Form who leave King’s this year. We were able to mark this special occasion with a meal at ZaZa Bazaar on Harbourside which was much enjoyed by the choir.
