A sport roundup of the Easter term...
It has been an extremely busy and successful term of sport, both in terms of participation and performance. It has been wonderful to see such engaged, motivated and passionate pupils in all variety of sports offered this term, from National level success on the hockey pitch, to pupils making great strives to improve their Health and Fitness in the Health-Related Fitness Games option. I am pleased to see a bit of a revival in our cross-country option as more pupils have been running, both recreationally as well as competitively. The number of netball teams that we continue to field is amazing, with our senior 2nd, 3rd and 4th teams being amongst our most competitive in terms of their results across all the sports that we play. This incredible depth is credit to all the girls who choose to play netball and who do so at such a good standard. It was wonderful to accompany the Boys’ U18 team to the National Rosslyn Park 7s competition and to see them compete with such high-quality opposition. Another success is the development of our Girls’ Football Programme, which has had a record number of girls playing this term, and it is wonderful to see the rapid improvement they are making, both technically and tactically, and I am very grateful to Mr Cole and the departing Mr Thompson for their energy, enthusiasm and passion that they bring to both training sessions and matches alike.
Equally, it has been one of the most successful hockey terms in recent times. The Boys’ U15A team bowed out of the Independent Schools’ Hockey Cup (ISHC) Plate in the Quarter Final after a tense penalty stroke competition, whilst the 1st XI were defeated in the Quarter Final of the ISHC after an outstanding performance versus the renowned Whitgift School. Equally, the 1st XI lost out in the Semi-Final of the National Plate competition after another exciting cup run. Finally, the U16 Girls’ also had an exceptional cup run as they were defeated 4-2 at the Quarter Final stage by Redmaids’ school, who went on to win the trophy.
As ever, all of the above would not be possible without the commitment shown by all the staff who contribute so much time and effort into delivering such excellent sporting provision at King’s. I hope that all staff, pupils and parents have a restful, relaxing and enjoyable Easter.
