A hugely enjoyable Inter-House Music Festival...

On Tuesday afternoon, the annual Inter-House Music Festival took place, with Rounds 1 and 2 in the Hauser & Wirth Recital Hall, and Round 3 in the Memorial Hall. It is always an exciting time of year when entire Houses frequent the Music School perhaps more often than other times of the year in preparation for the Solo, Ensemble and House Song rounds of this important whole-school event. Once again, it was great to have a packed Recital Hall with performers, staff and parents watching live.

We were very fortunate to be able to welcome Miss Kim Foster, Director of Music at All Hallows Preparatory School adjudicate. Miss Foster is a percussion graduate from the Royal College of Music, and I think she particularly enjoyed seeing a few percussionists from King’s taking part in the competition.

As ever, the standard was high from start to finish. In Round 1, each House provided an impressive Junior and Senior Soloist. In Round 2, each House had clearly worked incredibly hard to produce six high-quality ensembles. Most importantly, the competition is entirely pupil-led which makes all the performances all the more impressive.

Round 3 is perhaps the pinnacle of the competition with the entire House taking to the stage to perform a House Song. As is customary at King’s, there was a superb and supportive atmosphere throughout the event, and it was wonderful to see all the Houses working collaboratively. It was a hugely enjoyable and rewarding day that celebrated the diversity of musical talent here at King’s.

Well done and congratulations to all taking part, but particular congratulations go to New House who won the House Song Round and Arion House who won the Inter-House Music Festival overall by a very narrow margin of one point! Finally, our thanks go to Miss Foster for giving up her time to adjudicate.
