This was an outstanding Final of the highest quality delivered by two very passionate teams. This debate was full of excellence, superb delivery, skill, and brilliant strategic decisions. All debaters had clearly prepared incredibly well, delivering their respective parts with great passion and conviction. It was impressive to see Emily of Wellesley open the debate without the use of notes, whilst also including extensive detail on specific examples to support the motion. Both teams had completed a huge amount of research and used this well to help back their arguments. Sarah and Seb debated well in the middle, tactically using a rebuttal whilst also using the points of information well. The use of points of information from both teams was outstanding, not just in terms of delivering a key question to oppose a point by the opposing team, but to also help distract the opposition from their argument.

James and Satine closed the debate utilising their significant experience as skilled U6th Form debaters. Whilst both were impressive, James’ direct and targeted approach alongside superb use of tone and pace delivered a formidable final statement. Given the outstanding debating demonstrated by both teams, deciding on a winner was incredibly hard for the adjudicators. After such a high quality and high scoring final, it was decided that Wellesley ran out winners by 1 point. Both teams deserve huge credit for an incredibly strong final.

I am incredibly proud of the Wellesley debating team - Satine, Winnie, Sarah H, Emily, Nella, and Naomi - for their outstanding achievement in winning this year's Inter-House Debating competition. They have grown in confidence and style in each round, culminating in the exceptional effort they put in today to secure the win. They truly epitomised the Wellesley values of ambition and hard work, and their dedication was evident every step of the way!
