Inspiration and guidance from America! An OB’s experience studying in Boston...

We were delighted to welcome Old Brutonian, Amelia Warren, to the 6th Form Centre on Monday evening, where she offered her guidance and shared her incredible experiences of studying in the USA. Currently a second-year student at Berklee College of Music, Boston, it was amazing to hear of all the opportunities she has had and is enjoying as a result of taking that step outside of the UK for her studies.

As a student on a world-leading Film Score Composition course, Amelia is already being commissioned to compose soundtracks for newly created films, as well as releasing her own work on global music-sharing, platforms. But it is not all music, she shared her enthusiasm at the opportunity to study a range of subjects as part of the US Liberal Arts approach to learning, as well as the incredible time she has just recently enjoyed whilst on placement in Valencia, Spain, for a semester.

Based in Boston, Amelia also talked about the opportunity to travel during the semester breaks, such as a recent trip down to nearby New York, or an upcoming visiting to Niagara Falls.

Particularly helpful for those in the audience who are looking to apply to universities in the USA, was the guidance she gave on the process of applying and, crucially, the various bureaucratic stages that were required after the application and offer, and the hard work that she put in to earn her place at this world-leading institution.

The audience, with many questions to ask, were hugely appreciative of Amelia’s talk, and maybe just a little bit jealous!
