Upper 6th Form Practice Interview Scheme...

The first interview in one’s life, whether for a university course or a job role, can be a nerve-wracking occasion. However, it can also be a critical step to gaining that dream job or undergraduate place. Therefore, familiarity with, and experience of, a stranger-led interview can be critical to one’s success. Providing such familiarity and experience is the purpose behind the Upper 6th Interview Scheme, which followed some interview skills training, as well as CV and cover letter writing.

Eighteen volunteer parents, Old Brutonians and local employers generously gave their Saturday morning time to carry out six interviews each, ensuring that the Upper 6th pupils all had one or two practice interviews. A formal setup, pupils and their CVs were put under the microscope, before being given individualised feedback from the interviewers.

The pupils were impressive, acquitting themselves very well in their interviews and demonstrating an appropriate balance of self-confidence without arrogance. They answered questions clearly and with thought, showing careful preparation and receiving excellent feedback from the interviewers. A number even made further career contacts, as offered kindly by interviewers, supporting further exploration of future experience and career development.

Our thanks go to the interviewers for so kindly giving of their time and experience to provide such a beneficial experience to the King’s 6th Form pupils.
