Sport Roundup - Week 9...
The U19 squad travelled to Taunton to play in the first round of the National Schools Tournament. With a squad of 12 players, we had a strong group of players all striving to make the starting line up. The first game was against Wells Cathedral School, and despite a nervous start, the girls pulled together in the second half to take a 9-4 win. This was followed by a very tough game against the eventual runners up, Richard Huish College. The final score of 15-6 didn’t reflect the competitive nature of the game, but the girls learnt a lot about being more tactically aware.
Next up, was King's College Taunton, which was a brilliant game, allowing us to try different combinations and come away with a very comfortable win. After this we played Taunton School, followed by Millfield. The girls started well against Taunton, and were in the match until after half time. With a few less errors, this was a game which could have been closer, and demonstrates the level of netball of which this squad is capable of achieving. The Millfield squad was one of the strongest we have seen in recent years, and despite some good passages of play, the girls were outplayed across the court, by the well deserved final winners.
This was a very pleasing and promising afternoon of netball, and we are all looking forward to the netball season next term.
