Hockey

Team of the Week - Girls’ U16 won 3-1 vs Taunton School
Goals: Sophie, Caroline, Georgina
Player of the Match: Jess

The U16 girls produced a fantastic performance to defeat Taunton School 3-1 in Round 1 of the National Cup. A great team effort saw King’s produce some outstanding hockey as they created numerous goal scoring opportunities. Having made a slow start and allowing Taunton to take an early lead, King’s soon woke up and played the hockey they are capable of. Some fantastic individual play from Marcia set up Georgina for an easy tap in goal to level the scores. Despite creating lots of chances to score, the second half remained 1-1 and with only 4 minutes to go, Caroline scored from a penalty corner to make it 2-1 before Captain Sophie scored yet another penalty corner to make it 3-1. Jessica was voted Player of the Match after an excellent performance. This victory sets up a second round match with Millfield to be played after half term.

Netball

The U14 and U16 squads set off to King's College Taunton on Saturday morning to play in the Somerset County Netball tournament.

The U14, who have only played together for 5 weeks had a tough start with the match against Millfield. They got off to a fantastic start, scoring the first goal and having plenty of attacking opportunities. Sadly their goals wouldn’t go in and with tall and skilful opponents, the game got away from us. After this we regrouped and played very well against Wells Cathedral School, winning 6-3, with all the play and then beat Queens College 5-2. This gave us a place in the semi final against Taunton School. They were an exceptionally strong side and easily won the game, eventually going on to win the tournament. We then played Millfield again in the 3rd/4th play off, which was much better and with a stronger scoring rate the girls would have had a close game. With plenty of promise and enthusiasm in this year group, next term looks very exciting.

TheU16 squad was made up of girls from both 4th and 5th Form, with competition for squad places being keenly fought over. They started with two fantastic wins over King's College 15-3 and Haygrove School 13-5, with the whole squad proving how versatile and dynamic they are. They then played a strong Millfield team, eventually losing 11-4, who went on to win the tournament. A strong game against Queen's Taunton, winning 10-5 was followed by a very forthright final match against Taunton School, the eventual runners up.
The U16 finished 3rd in Somerset and the U14 4th, which is a fantastic result, well done to everyone who played.
