Sport Celebration

The inaugural King’s Bruton 1st Team Dinner was held on Saturday evening in the Memorial Hall.

The evening celebrated the School's 500th Anniversary as well as celebrating the outstanding seasons of sport for the King’s Bruton 1st Teams and the amazing contribution that some of the U6th Form pupils have given over the last 5 years to their sports at King’s. The room looked magnificent with all the international performers flags flying and the theme of Navy and Gold throughout from napkins, balloons and twinkly lights! A huge thank you to Emma C and Penny B plus all the other parents who kindly helped out preparing and serving on the evening.

All the players were given a little memento of a coaster with King’s Bruton 1st Team, engraved and kindly made by Jim Byrne. All the captains of the teams gave an account of their season and superb speeches representing all the different sports played at King’s. Guests from many of our feeder Prep Schools attended and enjoyed seeing their protégées all grown up and succeeding in their sport. Parents also enjoyed the evening listening to the amusing speeches and we are very grateful to Emma and Chris Barber who donated a wonderful silver perpetual cup, which for the first time was awarded to the outstanding Girls’ 1st Hockey Team.

Our distinguished guest speaker for the evening was Old Brutonian / ex Blackford House, Lloyd Wallace, who gave truly enlightening and inspirational talk on his experiences competing for Great Britain, an account of his horrendous accident whilst training in the Alps and how he got back to full fitness and was selected to compete for Great Britain in the 2017 Olympics in South Korea. Hopefully he has inspired some of the present King’s sports stars to train hard and follow their dreams?

Thank you to the catering department for the delicious meal they served and thank you to the sports department for all their support and help in organising such a fantastic evening.
