It is rare to be given the opportunity to meet US universities' Deans of Admissions, so when six of them came to Somerset, this was an opportunity too good to be missed by five ambitious Sixth Form pupils from King’s.
The Deans were representing leading US universities: Columbia, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Boston, Chicago and University of Southern California. Organised by the World Leading Schools Association, and meeting at Millfield, the Deans talked through the admissions process to guide the pupils in the process ahead. A fascinating second talk of the afternoon saw the panel work and discuss three real past applicants, from whom they had to select whom they would “offer” a place at their university. It was a very revealing process and one that was helpful to see.
Finally, pupils had the chance to connect with the Deans and address individual questions to them. Given their aspirations to apply to the represented universities, this was a very valuable opportunity.
