King's is exceptionally proud of our 3rd-5th Form pupils, who achieved brilliant results in this year's UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge.

59 pupils sat the paper and impressively over half of our entrants (30 pupils) achieved certificates compared to 40% nationally. Nineteen (32%) of our entrants achieved Silver or Gold Awards, which is nearly twice as many as last year. Well done to all!

The UKMT Individual Maths Challenges are lively, intriguing multiple choice question papers, which are designed to stimulate interest in maths. The three levels cover the secondary school range 11-18 and together they attract over 600,000 entries from over 4,000 schools and colleges. An example of a more tricky question in this years IMC is: ‘How many three-digit numbers are increased by 99 when their digits are reversed?’ Particular congratulations go to Felix and Gabe who have been invited to participate in the follow on ‘Kangaroo’ round in March. The following awards were achieved:

  • Gold awarded to: Felix, Gabe and Aidan.
  • Silver awarded to: Hector, Charlie, Alex, Freda, Mani, Yuan, Archie, Mia, Anike, Hamish, Rian, Oliver, Nikolas, Adam, Isaac and Javdat.
  • Bronze awarded to: Michael, Rosie, Harriet, Jack, Pandora, Isca, Rowan, Rory, Laurie, Elih and Aled.
