EAL Academic Success

At the end of last term, 10 of our international pupils went off to Bristol to sit the Cambridge Advanced (C1) and Cambridge First (B2) examinations...

These examinations, which have worldwide recognition in universities, higher education institutions and employment, are offered to our international pupils so they take away from King’s the proof of their achievement in language levels. The examinations require respectively high levels of competency in all four skills, reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Philipp and Lucas, both in the Sixth Form and both competent language users, worked incredibly hard and found the exam challenging, nerves aside, but were both rewarded with excellent marks, one of them being only two marks off an A grade!

Our First Certificate candidates were all 5th Formers, bar Juan who, as the only 3rd Former and mascot, was incredibly brave and found himself sitting in an exam hall not only with fellow pupils from King’s but with university students and young adults so much older than himself. But he really held his own, so a huge well done to Juan.

Opening the email containing the results from the Cambridge ESOL Examination board is always nerve-wracking but, in this session as well, the pupils have been deservedly rewarded for all their hard work. With a 100% of pupils achieving the target language level, and some pupils gaining A grades in the First and very high B grade scores in the Advanced examination, huge congratulations are due. Although most of the pupils will have opened their results in their own countries, having been here for only two terms, we have had the pleasure of congratulating the remaining 3 who are continuing their learning at King’s in person.
