Academic Success 5th Form

King’s Bruton pupils achieved impressive GCSE results this morning. 35% of all grades were awarded A*-A and 87% were awarded A*-C.

Callum McFarlane was the top performing pupil with ten A*s and two As while the following pupils also excelled: Sam Innes (8A*, 3A, 1B), Luke Tuckfield (8A*, 1A, 1B), Emma Walker (7A*, 4A), Ellie Wheeler (6A*, 3A) and Jonathan Boyle (5A*, 4A). 59% of all Biology pupils were awarded A*-A, with History (54% A*-A), Spanish (58% A*-A), Religious Studies (60% A*-A) and Music (100% A*-A) producing very strong results. Pupils at King’s are entered for Latin GCSE a year early, in the 4th Form (Year 10), and the ten pupils entered achieved 93% grades A*-A. The success continued down to the 3rd Form (Year 9), where pupils are entered for the short course GCSE Project Qualification, and 100% were awarded A*-B and 57% A*-A.

Headmaster, Ian Wilmshurst, commented:  “I am very proud of what our pupils have achieved in their GCSE results. These are strong results overall and there is so much individual success to celebrate. We have some excellent results, with plenty of A* and A grades, but I am just as pleased for the boys and girls who worked so hard for their B and C grades. The boys overall deserve praise for out-performing the girls for the first time in several years, while the ten 4th Form (Year 10) pupils who took their Latin GCSE a year early did so well to get 93% A*-A grades. My thanks go to all our teachers for their outstanding support. Pupils, and their parents, have faced much external change and pressure this year and I am delighted that our A Level, BTEC and GCSE results have all been so good and that we have 78% of our leavers moving onto their first choice university.”

The next Open Morning at King’s Bruton is at 9:30am on Saturday 23rd September 2017. To book a place or arrange a tour of the School on a separate date please click here.
