5th Form artists enjoyed a trip to Bristol Galleries...
5th Form artists had the opportunity to research, record and experiment with their new Exam topic themes in the inspirational city of Bristol. They were put into groups and rotated between venues of The Bristol Museum and Art Gallery, the Arnolfini Art Gallery and Centrespace Art Studios.
The The Bristol Museum and Art Gallery had exhibitions and artefacts, which linked well to the pupils themes from European master paintings to British and European ceramics. At the Arnolfini Art Gallery, the artists were lucky to have the opportunity to see the Bharti Kher: The Body is a Place exhibition before it closes the end of the month, where there are some previously unseen works, created during her residence in Somerset in 2017 and 2019. The highlight for many pupils was the lino stamp print workshop in Centrespace, which is an old chocolate factory that has been turned into studios for a collection of artists. One of the artists, Victoria Wilmott gave the pupils insight to her lino stamp process, before they then turned their theme inspired images into stamps which they presented in a concertina book. The pupils also had a tour of the building to see the spaces behind the creativity.
It was an inspiring day for the artists who will now look to explore this theme further this term.
