Sublime Spring Concert

Music Concert

The Spring concert was a great success and offered a wide variety of music, in some cases at an exceptional standard.

The concert opened with Alex singing Vaughn Williams’s Rise Heart from the Five Mystical Songs. Alex sings beautifully and pulled the tempo around to get the most out of this work, the orchestra followed, their parts being deceptively difficult. Rebecca then performed two movements from Telemann’s Viola Concerto; this is Rebecca’s second instrument, she is actually a very talented flautist! Rebecca played the music with rhythmic vitality and very good intonation. The Military Band were on fine form, I particularly enjoyed a passage from Moment for Marricone when George and Emma were using their wha wha mutes and Rebecca (this time on the flute) was flutter tonging. The Chamber Choir were sublime, my favourite pieces were the Three Songs of Love from Love’s Philosophy by L’Estrage who we hope will be writing an anthem to celebrate our 500th Celebrations in 2019. The evening finished with the choir singing Joyful Joyful a gospel piece arranged by Warren. The Choir were fully energised after a stunning opening solo by Imogen. My congratulations to all involved; an album of photos from the concert, along with a video of the concert, can be seen below.
