BTEC Hospitality pupils visited The Newt in Somerset to learn about their business strategy...
L6th Form BTEC Hospitality pupils were privileged to visit The Newt in Somerset to listen to a talk about their business strategy. Having just acquired a rating in The Top 50 Hotels in the World to Stay, and 3 Michelin Keys for their outstanding quality of service, and Extraordinary Stay Within the Hotel, only one of fourteen in the UK to achieve this accolade. It was brilliant to hear their team talking about Customer Service, Company Values, HR, Hotel Operations and PR/Marketing.
Just a stone's throw away from King's, we arrived in the threshing barn reception to a warm welcome and an incredible display of apples in preparation for their upcoming apple day. We were then taken to one of their meeting rooms, passing by the bakery, butchery, mushroom growing room and farm shop. Our hosts Emily (HR) Chris (Hotel Operations Manager) and Annika (Head of PR/Marketing) lead pupils through their roles and how they got to where they are now. The talk was fascinating and pupils learnt that there are over 550 employees at The Newt and growing. It was also nice to see a few familiar faces there, Old Brutonians who have left King's and are in their Gap year. Our group then had a tour of the gardens and a little of the history.
We are so grateful to have such supportive businesses in our local community, and it is really important that pupils get out and see Hospitality for themselves, to draw on industry expertise and apply this knowledge to their studies.
