King’s had the pleasure of hosting The King’s Bruton U18 Rugby 7s Festival, on January 19th 2025, in a pre-season warm up format. Fifteen schools from Somerset, Devon, Wiltshire, Worcestershire, Dorset and Bath attended the event, with over 200 players involved. Although we had no sunshine, the day was a resounding success, with a brilliant display of running rugby and great attitudes from all teams involved.
King’s group included Bryanston, King's College Taunton, Malvern College and Mount Kelly. King’s started the day well with a four try win over King's College Taunton, with scores coming from Angus C, Rory M, Ronnie F and Ludo W. Our second game was against Malvern College, where we lost by two tries in a well fought match, with a young King's Bruton squad on display. Mount Kelly was up next, where we saw the King’s squad bounce back, with a four try win. Tries coming from Henry H, George S, Lennox E and Angus C. Our fourth and final match of the day was against a tough Bryanston School pipped to be a strong 7s side. The King’s players left their best game till last, with a four try, emphatic win.
Thank you to all the schools, pupils, staff and parents who were involved throughout the day, making it an enjoyable experience for all. The day allowed all schools to prepare for the upcoming 7s season in a fast-flowing, relaxed environment. We look forward to seeing you on the touch line next year. King’s next U18 Rugby 7’s tournament will be the Bristol Grammar School 7s, on February 9th. Any supporters would be most welcome.
