The Semi-Final Inter-House Chess Match...

After last week’s draw between Blackford House and New House, we held what was supposed to be a final deciding round on Wednesday 6th March.

  • Otto (B) played Fred (N)
  • Toby (B) played Ludo (N)
  • Jesse (B) played Philipp (N)

The first game to finish was Otto v Fred, which Otto won, giving him a personal score of 4 wins from 4 games. He is undoubtedly our individual School Chess Champion for 2023/2024. Toby and Ludo took a little longer, but Ludo eventually prevailed. This meant that Blackford and New had one win each, leaving the final result in the hands of Jesse and Philipp. After a very long game, Philipp and Jesse achieved a draw, which means that we still do not have a winning boys’ House!

Having failed to achieve a positive outcome the boys went on to play against Harriet and Lucy (Priory House). It was quickly clear that the boys’ teams were stronger, and I can now confirm that Priory will be awarded 3rd place in the Inter-House Chess Competition.

We still do not know which House is going to win the trophy, and I refuse to let it be sawn in half - thank you for that suggestion, Jesse! So we will hold one final game, to be played between Otto (B) and Ludo (N). Fittingly, Ludo is last year’s individual School Champion.
