Horatio’s Garden is our charity for this term...
It was great to welcome Zoe, a representative from the charity Horatio’s Garden, to Assembly today to help us understand more about the charity we are supporting this term, and what the money we raise at King’s will go towards. Horatio’s Garden ‘nurtures the wellbeing of people after spinal injury in beautiful, vibrant sanctuaries within the heart of NHS spinal injury centres’. At my prep school, my art teacher knew Horatio’s family well and supported the charity very closely, so I thought it would be great to recommend Horatio’s Garden as the School’s charity for this term. We were all moved by Zoe’s story of a university student who got hospitalised after becoming completely paralysed from the neck down due to a rare illness, and the help she then received from Horatio’s Garden, giving her an opportunity to leave the hospital ward and immerse herself in nature for a while. We are thrilled to be supporting such a good charity this term, and we hope the money we raise will help Horatio’s Garden continue to support all those suffering with life-changing spinal injuries.
There are already several upcoming House events. A mufti day, a dodgeball competition and a cake sale organised for the next few weeks and we hope to raise lots of money for this worthwhile cause. If you want to find out more about the charity please do watch this video and visit the Horatio’s Garden website.
