Imagine being a child with no home, no parents, and no one to turn to. Imagine not knowing where your next meal will come from, or whether you’ll ever go to school. It may be difficult for you to imagine, but this, for many, is a harsh reality. For me this isn’t just a story, it’s my story.

The charity King's Bruton has chosen to support this term is the DOCS Foundation - Destitute and Orphan Children Safeguarding Foundation Nepal. And it’s not just a charity to me - it’s where my life began. For the first few years of my life, I was part of the Foundation and they were my family. They provided me with the love, care, and support that every child deserves but not all are fortunate enough to receive.

Their mission is simple yet powerful: to protect and uplift orphaned and vulnerable children in Nepal. These children have often experienced unimaginable hardships - losing their parents, being abandoned, or facing extreme poverty. The DOCS Foundation steps in to provide them with the essentials: a safe shelter, nutritious meals, and access to education and healthcare. They don’t just save children; they empower them.

But what truly sets the DOCS Foundation apart is their dedication to helping children heal and grow. They understand that these kids are more than just their circumstances. Currently, the orphanage is home to 32 children, and they have operated from a rented home since its inception, always dreaming of building a permanent home for the children.

For context, it costs £3,000 a month - or £36,000 a year - to provide food, education, healthcare, and shelter for the children. Every penny raised goes directly to giving these kids a safe and nurturing environment. By supporting the DOCS Foundation, we can ensure these children continue to have the essentials they need to grow into confident, capable adults. Every donation, no matter how small, helps change lives.

The DOCS Foundation can’t do this work alone. They rely on people like us - people who can afford to make a difference. People who can step up and make a difference. By choosing them as our school charity, we have the power to make this difference.

I ask you to think about this: what can we do to be part of this change? Whether it’s through fundraising, spreading awareness, or simply learning about their work, we have the chance to help children who are waiting for someone to believe in them. Let’s be the reason a child smiles again, the reason they dare to dream and let’s show them that even on the other side of the world, people care.
